466-115 ID Arts 1A: Dance and Story Telling

Two 2.5 hour sessions per week. These sessions may include practical workshops and individual and group project work, lectures, seminars and theatre visits

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate basic skills of dance and story telling;

  • identify and use the resources of voice and body in improvisation;

  • demonstrate an understanding of relationships between dance and storytelling; and

  • articulate a knowledge of dance/and storytelling for both children and adults.

Content:

A theoretical and practical study of dance and storytelling as they relate to performance. Topics will include exploration of basic skills in both dance and storytelling through improvisational techniques; an introduction to both plot and characterisation; and relationships between dance and storytelling for both children and adults.

Assessment:

Practical project work with performance (60%); and written assignment work with a maximum of 1750 words or equivalent (40%).
