Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial per week, and six 3-hour field days

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • understand and appreciate the diversity of current approaches to defining curriculum in contemporary education;

  • apply this understanding to curriculum development in a range of early childhood settings; and

  • demonstrate an in depth understanding of one of the current approaches influential in early childhood settings, developmentally-based curriculum.

Content:

An introductory study of curriculum; relating approaches to early childhood contexts. A study of developmentally-appropriate practice with particular reference to early childhood settings.

Assessment:

A journal (50%); and a 1500 word essay (50%).
