466-105 Biology 1A: Animal Biology

A 2-hour lecture, a 2-hour laboratory class per week and two half-day field trips

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of the structure and function of individual animals across a variety of taxonomic groups; and

  • demonstrate the skills required to undertake an integrated study of an individual animal.

Content:

A study of animal biology using as case studies Australian animals from different taxonomic groups. Topics will include: the anatomy, physiology, diet, reproduction, behaviour and habitat.

Assessment:

Assignments and practical work equivalent to 4000 words (100%).
