316-364 Economics C4: Economic Growth and Development

Students will attend lectures in 316-2/339 Economic Growth and Development in Asia since 1945

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • extend their knowledge of economic theory and policy via a study of Economic Growth and Development; and

  • acquire specialised knowledge in economic growth and Development, with a breadth of background suitable for intending teachers of economics or for a career in commerce.

Content:

Economic growth and development with particular reference to Third World economies. Topics will include: relevant models as a framework for the study of development problems; agriculture; financing of development; population; technological progress; industrialisation; and the role and influence of government. Both domestic and international issues are considered.

Assessment:

Examination (60%); an essay (40%).
