306-361 Accounting C1: Financial Accounting II

Two 1 1/2-hour seminars each week, except during block periods of School Experience weeks

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • discuss and analyse the development of the theory and methodology used by accounting theorists;

  • critically examine the accounting regulatory process;

  • describe and critically analyse a framework of accounting concepts; and

  • identify and discuss some specific contemporary issues in financial accounting.

Content:

Agency theory, accounting concepts and standards and their application to accounting reports. Topics include: accounting theory development, accounting regulation, and an examination of specific accounting issues.

Assessment:

Minor assignments (10%); tutorial exercises and participation (10%); a 1-hour mid-year test (10%) and a final 2-hour examination (70%). Students must perform satisfactorily in each area of assessment and submit all exercises and assignments.
