327-401 Advanced Organisational Behaviour

Classes totalling 3 hours per week throughout the semester

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should:

  • understand the major theories in organisational behaviour and be able to comment on their applications and limitations;

  • be able to cite the major empirical work from which such theories developed;

  • be able to comment critically on current research related to these theories; and

  • based on theory and research, be able to describe a programme aimed at dealing with specific organisational problems.

Content:

This course will expand students' knowledge of major theories in areas of Organisational Behaviour by examining the empirical foundations of these theories, as well as more current research in these areas. Topics covered in the course will include occupational stress, motivation, alternative dispute resolution, organisational communication, change management and leadership. Each topic area will be considered in terms of its relevance to the workplace, particularly how it may be used to deal with organisational behaviour problems.

Assessment:

One 3-hour end-of-semester examination (60%); written assignments and seminar presentations together not exceeding 3000 words (40%).
