327-209 Human Resource Management

Entry to this subject is restricted to students who have completed 75 points of first year subjects.

Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • understand the major functions and activities involved in human resource management;

  • comprehend how human resources can be managed effectively for the benefit of the individual, organisation and society;

  • identify the relationship of the human resource and other management functions in organisations.

Content:

Planning and forecasting human resource requirements. Recruitment and selection. Remuneration and reward systems. Appraisal, evaluation and employee motivation. Design and implementation of employee training and development programs. Quality of work life and productivity improvement programs. Managing effective working relationships.

Assessment:

A 2-hour end-of-semester examination (70%) and assignments totalling 2000 words (30%).
