Handbook 1997 : Faculty of Arts : Fine Arts (Art History and Cinema Studies)
The Department of Fine Arts (Art History and Cinema Studies) is concerned with the historical and critical study of the Visual Arts, from Antiquity to the present. The main emphases of the department are on art history, criticism and theory, cinema studies, museology, and cultural tourism. It offers programs in both Art History and in Cinema Studies which are described under their own respective headings in this handbook. These programs, while having their own identities, complement each other and share many critical perspectives and methodological frameworks, and students are encouraged to cross from one program to the other. The Department also offers specialist programs at Postgraduate Diploma level in Art Curatorial Studies & Museum Management and in Tourism and the Visual Arts.
There are no specific prerequisites for the Department of Fine Arts at First Year. Applicants must meet the admission requirements for entry to the Faculty of Arts. For prerequisites for second, third and fourth year subjects see under Art History and Cinema Studies.
