920-257/357 Spanish 2 LI/3 LI: Spanish Linguistics

Prerequisite/s:

Introduction to the Study of Language 1 & 2 and at least an H3 pass in Spanish 1A, 1B, 1C or coordinator's approval.

One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour tutorial per week

Objectives:

Students who complete this subject should:

  • have a practical knowledge of the basics of Spanish phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax.

Content:

This subject is an introduction to Spanish linguistics covering aspects of pronunciation, the formation of words and the basic sentence structures of Spanish. It is intended to provide the continuing student of Spanish with the basic analytical and descriptive tools essential to advanced language studies and language teaching and will make a significant contribution to the quality of the student's spoken Spanish.

Assessment:

Six assignments of 500 words each (60%) and two 1-hour class tests (40%).
