920-200 Spanish 3AL: Advanced Spanish Language

One 2-hour seminar per week and one 2-hour film screening per fortnight

Content:

This is an advanced language oriented course which studies aspects of the Spanish language and its relationship to society, as seen through the media and through film. Features of Peninsular and Latin American Spanish, including regional and social variation and ongoing changes in the contemporary language are studied. The subject has a strong practical orientation and is particularly relevant to students interested in advanced studies in Spanish and/or language teaching.

Assessment:

One 2000-word essay (20%); four transcription exercises (5% each); five questionnaires (5% each); two comprehension tests (5% each); a 20-minute seminar paper (15%) and class participation (10%).
