Six hours per week: three 1-hour lectures, two 1-hour tutorials and one 1-hour practical class per week

Objectives:

Students who complete this subject should:

  • be able to read selected unedited texts; and

  • be able to communicate at a basic level.

Content:

This subject aims to consolidate material taught in Thai 1A. It concentrates on the tones and vowels while introducing more complex graphemes and developing speaking and listening skills with an extended vocabulary related to common situations in daily life. Attention is given to the Thai world view particularly such things as the place of status and religion in Thai society.

Assessment:

Progressive assessment including regular oral, aural and written class tests and homework (50%), one 1000-word cultural assignment (10%), one 10 minute oral/aural test (20%), one 2-hour examination (20%).
