920-164 Vietnamese Introductory Language 1A

Five hours per week: 3-hours of lectures and 2-hours of practical language classes

Content:

This subject is designed as an introduction to contemporary spoken and written Vietnamese. No previous knowledge of the language is presumed. The subject introduces the basic level of syntactic patterns, vocabulary for practical oral communication and phonology. An understanding of Vietnamese culture and society is included.

Assessment:

One 1500-word book review (20%); one 1500-word assignment (20%); one 1-hour written test (35%); and one 2-hour oral exam (25% - including a role play in small groups, a short dialogue in Vietnamese and a multiple choice aural-oral test).
