Students who complete this subject should be able to:

• understand the major areas of Christian Belief and the issues which shaped those beliefs;

• identify the types and methods of theology.

Content:

The subject will introduce students to the consideration of what theology is and how it may be done. Consideration will be given to the history, aims, resources, methods, themes, contexts and divisions of Christian systematic theology. Topics to be covered will be selected from: sources for theology, types and methods of theology, criteria for evaluating theological work, an historical survey of theological method, the relationship between theology and other disciplines, the living tradition of the Christian community, the apostolic experience and the kerygma, the insights of other religious traditions.
