Two 1-hour lectures and two 1-hour tutorials per week

Subject Description:

This subject provides a thorough review of basic grammar and vocabulary in written and spoken Hindi. Weekly grammar and translation exercises are used to consolidate the skills acquired at first year level.

Assessment:

Ten weekly written assignments (40%), 3 oral class presentations of 20-minutes (20%) and one 2-hour examination (40%).

  • Preliminary reading: Kachru Y and Pandharipande, Intermediate Hindi (2 vols.), Motilal Banarsidas, Delhi 1983.
