920-119 Spanish 1A-2: Practical Spanish and Spanish and Latin American Culture

Four hours a week: one 1-hour seminar, one 1-hour grammar class and one 2-hour practical language class

Subject Description:

An intensive subject in practical Spanish language and grammar and an introduction to modern Spanish and Latin American culture. Written texts, radio and TV material, films and literary texts will be used to sharpen and develop performance in speaking, listening, reading and writing and to broaden the student's knowledge of Hispanic culture.

Assessment:

One 1000-word essay (15%); written and oral participation (60% - participation in all classes (5%); written assignments (25%); transcription exercises (10%); one 20-minute oral presentation (15%); class composition (5%)); one 2-hour written and aural semester test (25%).
