Subject Description: | The Practices Laboratory class is a participatory component of the BSW course in which students observe and rehearse social work and interpersonal skills within a small group environment. With the aid of audio-visual equipment, rehearsal techniques and observational screens, etc., participants experience a variety of demonstrated and simulated situations designed to increase their awareness of interpersonal phenomena and improve their social work skills. Throughout the series of sessions, group members will be videotaped as they undertake particular practice-focused tasks. These tapes, together with other demonstration material and group discussions etc., will be used to confirm helpful behaviours and to indicate behaviours that may require change. | |
Assessment: | Class participation, preparation of a videotape of student's interviewing practice, and a written report, all equivalent to 5000 words. | |
