Subject Description: | An examination of theoretical and empirical studies of decision making in criminal justice; the idea of discretion and the control of discretionary judgements; an introduction to techniques appropriate to the study of decision making. As a result of this material students should be able to apply some of the major criminological and psychological studies of decision making to the operation of the criminal justice system and should be able to evaluate research into decision making in criminal justice. | |
Assessment: | Up to 5000 words of written work at 3rd year level and 6000 words at 4th year level. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work. | |
