191-321/421 Contemporary Crime Prevention

Subject Description:

Summarises and critically assesses crime prevention philosophies and techniques. Crime prevention in Australia is contrasted with approaches taken in Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and other selected western countries. Field work exercises provide students with practical skills and introduce them to social and political factors which influence crime prevention policy.

Assessment:

Up to 5000 words of written work at 3rd year level and 6000 words at 4th year level, including contribution to a team fieldwork exercise. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work.
