Subject Description:

An introduction to the study of meaning. It takes a look at the main linguistic approaches to the study of meaning, semantic analysis and argumentation, problems of accounting for some selected areas of linguistic meaning; and the study of linguistic meaning in context with respect to its meaning in other disciplines.

Assessment:

Two written assignments, a tutorial presentation and an essay. There will also be regular non-assessable problems, totalling 5000 words.
