Content: | The subject will include discussions of the development of the national idea; the relationship between nationalism and Islam; government, leadership and party systems; the rise of Islamic movements; the place of both countries in the broader Middle Eastern and Islamic environment; Turkey's relations with the Turkic Republics of Central Asia; social and cultural trends; foreign relations (with the United States in particular and in Turkey's case with the European Community); ethno-religious and national questions (the Copts in Egypt and the Kurds in Turkey). | |
