Prerequisite/s: | One first-year single-semester Philosophy subject. Students who lack this prerequisite, but believe themselves adequately prepared to attempt any second/third year subjects, should consult the Head of Department. | |

Subject Description: | A detailed investigation and analysis of one or more philosophical topics of concern familiarising students with the philosophical topic or topics dealt with in lectures and providing them with the ability to evaluate research in terms of the adequacy of the methodology employed in the research and the effectiveness with which it is presented in publications. Students will also gain the ability to conduct library research and produce a logically structured, coherent and concise evaluative report setting out prior work on the area or areas in question and indicating ways in which the topic or topics could be analysed in future studies. | |
Assessment: | One 2-hour end-of-semester examination (50 %) and an assignment of no more than 3000 words (50 %). | |
