Subject Description: | The metaphysics and epistemology of Locke, Condillac, Diderot and Hume will be studied, with the objective of providing students with a critical appreciation of Empiricism and a good understanding of Enlightenment thought in Britain and France. Students can also expect to learn how to state and work through some important philosophical problems encountered in representative major texts. | |
Assessment: | One 2-hour end-of-semester examination (50 %) and an assignment of no more than 3000 words (50 %). | |
