Subject Description:

A further study in basic Japanese. Students will learn to communicate in a variety of situations using basic language functions. They will be expected to learn 96 new Chinese characters, and read materials using these characters and the kana syllabaries.

Assessment:

Assignments and quizzes totalling not more than 3500 words (1st year level) or 2500 words (2nd year level) in written work; one 2-hour written examination; two short oral/aural perception tests (maximum 30 minutes). Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examinations.
