150-281/381 Reinventing Greece: Philhellenism and Greek Nationalism in Literature, Art and Architecture

Any two Arts subjects or permission of the Head of Department. No knowledge of the Modern Greek language is presupposed.

Subject Description:

Study of the diversity of visions of Hellenism expressed in literature, art and architecture in relation to movements in European thought and politics.

Assessment:

Written work up to 3000 words (50 %) and a 2-hour written examination (50 %).

A handbook of readings and illustrations will be available from the Department.
