150-208/308/408 Advanced Arabic 2 Part B

Subject Description:

This subject will attempt at developing students' skills such as (a) proficiency in written structures of sophisticated complexity, and (b) the capacity to decode and evaluate specialist and technical language use. It will also cover a variety of issues in modern Arabic literature and literary criticism, the historical, cultural, economic and political factors that have conditioned the emergence of Arabic as an international language as well as translation of texts of medium to high level of difficulty.

Assessment:

Written assignments in total not more than 2000 words, one 2-hour written examination, and an aural/oral test of not more than 15 minutes. In addition to these, 4th year students should write an essay of not more than 1000 words. Weighting of assessment components will be made known at commencement of the unit.
