Prerequisite/s: | This subject is designed primarily for native speakers of English and is open to students from all University Faculties. Non-native speakers will need a score of at least 7 on the IELTS or the UTESL equivalent. | |

Contact: | Three hours of combined lecture and tutorial classes each week for one semester. The subject is offered in Semester 1 and again in Semester 2 | |
Subject Description: | Technical communication skills (the presentation of information for the purpose of assisting a particular audience to understand a subject or carry out a task), with a strong focus on writing. Students will be introduced to basic principles for writing effective technical manuals, technical reports, project proposals, progress reports, résumés, and job application letters. Students will also be given instruction in the use of word processing, spreadsheets and presentational software in support of written and oral communication. | |
Assessment: | Continuous assessment on class and homework tasks, major writing assignments and an oral presentation, all equivalent to 5000 words. | |
