Prerequisite/s: | Satisfactory completion of Advanced English as a Second Language 1, or an acceptable level of language proficiency as determined by a test. Students who are native speakers of English or whose language proficiency is near-native are not eligible to enrol. | |

Subject Description: | Content-based English for academic purposes. Students will develop their academic skills through a study of current issues in Australian law, politics and society. The skills focused on include the ability to deliver short academic presentations, analyse a range of academic texts critically, take selective notes at lectures, and synthesise material from a range of sources to produce summaries and essays fluently, accurately and in a way that addresses the task. | |
Assessment: | Continuous assessment in oral and written work; two written assignments of approximately 1000 words; a spoken presentation of approximately five minutes duration; one three-hour exam. | |
