Objectives:

Students completing this subject should:

  • have a thorough knowledge of the classic ethnographies on which the discipline has been built;

  • have thorough knowledge of the historical development of the discipline;

  • have a broad-based general knowledge of the ethnographic record;

  • be equipped to undertake fieldwork based research at postgraduate level.

Content:

An in-depth reading and examination of the classic ethnographies that have defined the discipline of anthropology in the twentieth century.

Assessment:

Written work of up to 6000 words.
