Objectives:

Students completing this subject should:

  • have examined the constitution of critical boundaries and ethnic groups in the post-colonial era;

  • have acquired a knowledge of relationships of multicultural populations and developing nation-states;

  • have engaged in a critical comparison of ethnicity in major culture complexes of the world; and

  • be well acquainted with anthropological approaches to the study of colonialism, dependency, and ethnic identity.

Content:

The anthropological analysis of cultural boundaries, ethnic groups and nationalism.

Assessment:

Written work or equivalent totalling 5000 words.
