136-234/334 Interpreting Society: the Hermeneutic Imagination

At least two 200-level HPS subjects or an approved equivalent.

Contact:

One 1-hour lecture and one 2-hour tutorial a week.

Objectives:

Students completing this subject should:

  • have developed an understanding of the interpretative approach to social enquiry in sociology and other disciplines;

  • demonstrated this understanding through an engagement with the literature.

Content:

Exploration of a number of interpretative approaches within the context of post-foundational and post-metaphysical thought.

Assessment:

Two essays of 2500 words each.
