131-438 Writing History for Publication

Subject Description:

This subject introduces students wishing to work in both academic and applied history to the field of writing for publication. It will consist of a series of seminars which will discuss the research, writing and publication of professional history, particularly with regard to commissioned works. Such matters will be considered as the nature and range of commissioned histories, contractual agreements and obligations, finding historical source materials, writing for an employer, publishing, and professional historians' networks. Some seminars will be attended by writers and other professionals with relevant expertise.

Assessment:

Written work amounting to not more than 6000 words.
