131-302 Historical Theory and Research

One-and-a half-hour lecture per week, plus weekly one-hour tutorials

Subject Description:

The subject explores contemporary issues in historical theory as they affect historical research, and offers a guide to the formulation of a historical research essay. It introduces students to significant issues in the theory and practice of history, and assists students to develop skills in research and writing as a preparation for the fourth-year honours thesis.

Assessment:

Class participation (10%), an essay on historical theory of 2000 words (40%), a research essay with annotated bibliography of 3000 words (50%).
