Subject Description: | This subject surveys the history of twentieth century Japanese society. using the methodologies of social history, labour history and feminist history. The subject will consider how Japanese people have alternatively been constructed as 'imperial subjects' in the first half of this century and as 'citizens' of a liberal democracy in the latter half of the century. | |
