Subject Description: | The subject examines the cultural and social history of the US 1890-1990. Major themes include: capitalism, industrialisation and urbanisation; the emergence of mass society and mass culture, especially broadcasting; social movements and social change; the Progressive movement; African Americans and the Civil Rights movement; Native American history; the women's movement; workers and unionism; the Cold War; the 1960s; the new conservatism. | |
Assessment: | One 2500 word research essay (60%), one 2500 word final reflective essay (30%), one oral presentation (10%). | |
