126-319/419 Russian-English Interpreting

Objectives:

By the end of the subject, students should be able to:

  • carry out informal interpreting;

  • background speakers: also more formal interpreting;

  • background speakers at least should be able to sit assessment tests with NAATI, and acquire a formal qualification.

Content:

Theory and principles or oral interpreting (consecutive and simultaneous); videos of professional practice will be used; structured practice by simulated interpreting sessions (all with special reference to Russian).

Assessment:

Two simulated interpreting sessions lasting 15-20 minutes; one essay of 1000 words and a class paper.
