121-350 Techniques in Environmental Hydrology

Note:

Students cannot receive credit for both this subject and the Faculty of Science subject 121-360 Environmental Hydrology A or 121-305 Environmental Hydrology B.

Prerequisite/s:

121-220/320 Water Resources or 121-212/312 Geomorphology or equivalent as approved by the subject coordinator. This subject can only be done in conjunction with, or after completion of, 121-349 Principles of Environmental Hydrology.

Timetable:

Semester 1

Contact:

Three hours of practical work a week and up to seven days of field work

Objectives:

Upon completion of the subject a student should:

  • be able to acquire, analyse and present data relating to catchment characteristics and stream hydrographs;

  • carry out surveys of stream channel condition in the field;

  • carry out an investigative program of environmental assessment of river systems;

  • be aware of the importance of streams as habitats and the problems of catchment management.

Content:

Morphometric analysis; statistical hydrology; field survey and analysis of river systems; river management.

Assessment:

Practical and field trip reports of up to 6000 words.
