Objectives: | To develop an understanding of the basic principles of environmental management and the process of environmental conflict. At the end of this subject students should:

Content: | Case studies of environmental issues and the conflicting parties involved. Environmental degradation and concepts of rational environmental management. Economic functions of the environment. Environmental valuation. Sustainable development and growth, population and equity. Environmental conflict 'mapping' and conflict resolution. Internationalisation of environmental conflict. | |
Assessment: | Written assignments together totalling not more than 3000 words, and one 2 hour examination. Weighting of assessment items will be announced at the beginning of the semester. | |
