116-230/330 En-Gendering Culture: Women and Representation in French Society

Content:

A historical and critical analysis of the role of women in their relation to the production of creative and theoretical texts in French society. Examples include women as social critics, objects of representation, creative artists and critical theorists.

Assessment:

Written assessment not more than 5000 words: one seminar paper and class participation equivalent to not more than 1500 words (20 %); one essay (1500 words) (40 %); one two-hour test at the end of the semester (40 %).
