116-114 French Part 1: Contemporary France I

Six hours including one laboratory hour per week

Content:

Various exercises and activities to consolidate Year 12 linguistic skills. Speaking: conversation on everyday topics, role plays, short presentations, argument development. Aural comprehension: understanding authentic spoken materials, development of listening accuracy. Writing: grammar revision and development, composition, translation. Reading: introduction to textual and visual studies and contemporary French civilisation through intensive work in small groups; development of critical analysis.

Assessment:

Continuous assessment in written and oral work (35 %); a 90-minute written language exam (25 %); a 10-minute oral test (10 %); a civilisation essay (10 %); and a 50-minute textual studies test (20 %).
