116-102 French Part 1A

Note:

Any student who has ever presented for Year 12 French or the equivalent is ineligible for this subject.

116-101 Introduction to French 1A or equivalent.

Contact:

Six hours comprising five hours of language class work and one laboratory hour per week. Full attendance required

Content:

An intensive course for students who have successfully completed approximately 80 hours of classroom contact French, with an introduction to French culture through the materials used for language acquisition. Students successfully completing the course should be able to: understand basic French spoken at normal speed; identify and inquire in French about anything not understood; initiate and sustain conversation in basic French; pronounce French acceptably; read modern French; write accurately in basic French, using the range of grammatical structures studied (i.e. all those normally studied over a period of up to six years in secondary school).

Assessment:

Class tests and assignments and attendance (35 %), oral (15 %), 3-hour written examination (50 %).
