Subject Description:

A study of the origins, aims and features of surrealist film-making from its beginnings in Dada to its contemporary manifestations in the films of Luis Bunuel and David Lynch. Topics will include: surrealist politics; surrealist art; the marvellous; Hollywood influences; mad love; the theatre of cruelty; eroticism; sexuality.

Assessment:

Written work which may comprise class papers, essays of take-home examinations totalling about 5000 words.
