106-445 Literature and Context

Subject Description:

This subject studies a range of English poetry, prose and drama from the seventeenth to the early twentieth century, focusing on ways in which it has been taken to be 'representative' or 'subversive'. Drawing on both analytical and writing skills, it invites an understanding of pressures and problems involved in notions of canon, period, historical 'background', and 'literary movement'.

Assessment:

Written work of not more than 6000 words.
