106-419 Women and Australian Writing Since Federation

Content:

This subject involves the study of a selection of writing by Australian women in various genres, from 1901 to the present, focusing on questions of gender, genre and nationality, and on the interactions of these elements. Students who complete the subject successfully will have acquired an overview of the history of women's writing in Australia since Federation, including Aboriginal writing and storytelling. Students will also have become familiar with the various branches and major exponents of feminist literary theory, in the light of which the set texts will be read and studied.

Assessment:

Written work of up to 6000 words.
