106-103 Modern Australian Writing

One 1-hour lecture and one 1.5-hour tutorial per week

Subject Description:

This subject introduces students to selected examples of Australian writing from the post-war period, with an emphasis on post-sixties poetry and fiction. Some non-fictional texts may be included. It also aims to provide students with a detailed historical and cultural context for each of the texts studied. Students will be invited to consider some of the important generic and literary-historical issues in Australian writing, as well as questions of critical and cultural interest, such as gender, race, ethnicity, class, authorship, popular culture and cultural production, as they are currently taking place.

Assessment:

Written work of not more than 4000 words.
