Subject Description: | Literary and historical texts illustrating aspects of Babylonian culture; introduction to Akkadian epigraphy. Students on completion of the subject should have acquired a deeper knowledge of Akkadian grammar; an initial knowledge of the principles of Akkadian philology and epigraphy; be introduced to essential aspects of ancient Mesopotamian and Near Eastern culture through the reading of genuine texts of various kinds. | |
Assessment: | 104-266/366: Regular exercises and class tests (30%) and a 2-hour examination (70%). 104-466: Written work, tests and examinations totalling no more than 6000 words. | |
