Subject Description:

The basic grammar and syntax of Akkadian; reading of simple texts illustrative of various aspects of Babylonian culture. Students on completion of the subject should have acquired the basics of Akkadian grammar; have an initial understanding of the problems of Akkadian epigraphy (the cuneiform script).

Assessment:

104-265/365: Regular exercises and class tests (30%) and a 2-hour examination (70%). 104-465: Written work, tests and examinations totalling no more than 6000 words.
