Subject Description: | An introduction to the political, cultural and literary life of Classical Rome, through an examination of the city in the late Republic (1st Century BC) and the impact of the change from a Republican to an Imperial form of government. Students on completion of the subject should have acquired an understanding of the history, literature and thought of Classical Rome, primarily through the study of original documents and texts in translation, and be able to develop critical insights into and analyses of such works. | |
Assessment: | Written work of 2000 words (50%) and a 2-hour examination (50%). | |
