103-201/301 Multimedia Applications for Arts Students

Successful completion of 103-230/330 Microcomputer Applications for Arts Students.

Three hours of lectures and workshops per week

Objectives:

Students who complete this subject should:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of interactive multimedia and its strengths and weaknesses relative to other media;

  • critically review and appraise the design of contemporary multimedia products;

  • demonstrate practical skills in interactive multimedia authorship using contemporary interactive multimedia authoring software.

Content:

This subject offers Arts students an opportunity to critically appraise interactive multimedia as a mechanism for the construction and expression of knowledge, and to develop practical skills in the authorship of interactive multimedia products.

Assessment:

Written work not exceeding 2000 words (30%) and the development of multimedia product (70%). Students will be given the opportunity to participate in group work.

Prescribed Texts:

Students will make use of a variety of multimedia software, such as Supercard and Photoshop. Students are strongly advised to consult the subject coordinator before purchasing a text.
