702-238 Construction Technology 2B

BPD (Arch) students may substitute this subject with an alternative technology subject (e.g. with an approved subject from the Faculty of Engineering).

Up to 5 hours of lectures, tutorials, studio and laboratory work, and site visits per week

Subject Description:

Structures: Design of elements and of determinate structures and an introduction to indeterminate structural analysis; deflections; structural design and the role of the consultant engineer; the application of structural design codes including loading codes. Soil Mechanics: The characteristics and physical properties of rocks and soils and their influence on the design of building footings and building behaviour.

Assessment:

Assignments (e.g. exercises, essays, class presentation) equivalent to not more than 5000 words and one examination up to 2 hours (which could take the form of a class test). Exercises may relate to work being undertaken in other subjects.
