791-231 Business Mathematics And Statistics

Objectives:

The objective of this subject is to:

  • gain a comprehensive understanding of the use of statistics in agribusiness and agricultural science;

  • develop an understanding of the concepts, methods and procedures of descriptive statistics;

  • develop an understanding of probability and probability distributions;

  • develop an understanding of mathematics of finance, in particular interest rates and compounding and discounting.

Content:

Descriptive statistics for one and two variables, time series and forecasting, and introduction to probability; the mathematics of compounding and discounting.

Assessment:

Two examinations of two hours each (40% and 50%); assignment of 1000 words (10%).
